Severe weather is wreaking havoc in Monterrey, Mexico and southern Texas as Tropical Storm Alberto batters the region on Thursday. The storm brought heavy rainfall and flooding to the affected areas, prompting road closures and flight cancellations.

Mexican officials issued a warning to residents of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, advising them to steer clear of streams or rivers.

Businesses in Tampico boarded up their windows and residents stocked up on supplies. "I stocked up on groceries the day before yesterday, with water and the basic things. I protected windows and glass in my apartment, just as they did here. I have an electricity generator, rechargeable batteries in case power goes out or something worse happens," resident Marco Antonio Rodriguez said.

Coastal areas in southern Texas also experienced flooding as the storm moved through the Gulf of Mexico.
