Storm Alberto carved a path of destruction in Monterrey, the main city in northern Mexico, on Thursday as it washed out a roadway and caused the Santa Catarina River to burst its banks.

Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, weakened into a tropical depression as it moved inland over northeastern Mexico.

The storm brought with it heavy rains and flooding, killing four people, including three children.

One of the victims was identified by emergency services as a 15-year-old boy who was swept away by the current outside Monterrey.
