Toronto clarifies "red zone" COVID-19 restrictions as mayor tells people to "stay home"

Toronto general manager of emergency management Matthew Pegg provided more details on Thursday about what is allowed under "red zone" COVID-19 restrictions that begin Saturday, November 14.

He said indoor dining in food or beverage establishments will not be allowed, indoor group fitness classes are prohibited, though gyms can remain open with a limit of 10 people. Indoor meeting, event spaces, casinos, gaming establishments must be closed.

Toronto Mayor John Tory on Thursday said his message to people was "blunt and very simple: please stay home." He urged people as cases in the city continue to surge to not socialize with other people and only venture out if they need to go to work or school or collect essential items.
