In Bangladesh, the highly contagious Delta variant has led to record numbers of infections and deaths.
To control the outbreak, the government is imposing a nationwide lockdown from Thursday.
Tens of thousands of people are leaving the capital Dhaka before the lockdown takes effect, some find themselves stranded, unable to find transport.

Al Jazeera’s Tanvir Chowdhury reports from a ferry terminal outside Dhaka, Bangladesh, where workers are desperately trying to get back to their villages.
