Firefighters are working to battle at least nine separate wildfires across Texas and have been utilizing multiple tools, including controlled burns, in an effort to slow the spread.

In Wilbarger County in northern Texas, the Coconut Fire has burned an estimated 26,000 acres as of Friday and was 45 per cent contained. In that fire, a firefighter was treated in hospital and released after sustaining burns while battling the blaze Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in central Texas, the Mesquite Heat Fire continued burning in Taylor County, west of Dallas. The region has been facing drought conditions and has spread to more than 9,000 acres. Mandatory evacuations have been issued as a result.

The Texas A&M Forest Service, which has been battling the multiple wildfires, says a cold front is expected to move through this weekend which could potentially help in slowing the spread, providing some relief.
