The Nobel prize for literature has been awarded to the Tanzanian-born novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah. His work focuses on colonialism and the fate of refugees.
It is the first time in 35 years that a Black African has won the prize, and comes as the Swedish Academy tries to avoid charges of Western bias.
