The US says the Taliban has agreed to ensure that civilians trying to leave Afghanistan get to Kabul's airport safely, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has said.
Sullivan says Hamid Karzai International Airport is now up and running with flights carrying Americans and Afghan civilians out of the country.
Thousands of Afghans breached the airport fence on Monday in a desperate attempt to flee their nation.
Despite bipartisan criticism of the evacuation, the Biden administration has defended its decision to leave Afghanistan.

Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna reports from Washington, DC, the US.
