Afghanistan crisis: Kabul could fall to Taliban in "matter of hours" even as minister says city safe

As Afghanistan is on the brink of falling to the Taliban and the city of Kabul could fall in a "matter of hours," Global's Mercedes Stephenson asks our reporter David Akin how this massive international conflict will impact Canada's impending snap election — an election diplomats are questioning the timing of.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's acting Defence Minister Bismillah Mohammadi sought to reassure residents on that "Kabul is secure" as Taliban insurgents entered Afghanistan's capital.

Mohammadi said defence forces were "committed to their promise of defending Kabul" and would remain so until a peace process agreement had been reached in Doha.

An Afghanistan government delegation, including senior official Abdullah Abdullah, will travel to Qatar on Sunday to meet with representatives of the Taliban, said an Afghanistan negotiator.
