The UN say that civilians must be given safe passage away from war zones.

Ukraine says that Russian shelling has been preventing the evacuation of civilians from cities such as Mariupol, Sumy and Kharkiv.

Russia has again said it is ready to re-open humanitarian corridors but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the evacuation proposals after it emerged many routes would lead to Russia or its ally Belarus
