Social isolation is getting worse among Canada’s elderly. Here’s why

As Canada grapples with a rapidly aging demographic, experts are sounding the alarm over the increasing mental and physical health impacts of loneliness and social isolation – particularly among older Canadians.

A survey by the National Institute of Ageing on Tuesday found that around 41 per cent of Canadians aged 50 and older are at risk of social isolation and up to 58 per cent have experienced loneliness.

As health reporter Katherine Ward explains, there isn't an easy fix but it's an important issue, especially during the holiday season.
