The man convicted in the deadly Toronto van attack that killed 11 people and injured 15 others will soon learn his fate as a sentencing hearing gets underway this week.

In March 2021, a judge found Alek Minassian guilty of 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder.

Starting Monday, survivors of the attack and dozens of victims’ loved ones will submit victim impact statements as the case against Minassian wraps up.

Amaresh Tesfamariam, Betty Forsyth, Ji Hun Kim, So He Chung, Geraldine Brady, Chul Min Kang, Anne Marie D’Amico, Munir Najjar, Dorothy Sewell, Andrea Bradden and Beutis Renuka Amarasingha were killed in the attack.

Morganne Campbell reports on what to expect in the sentencing hearing and why families of his victims have had to wait so long to learn Minassian’s fate.
