Self-employed women in Canada on the rise, but other divides remain: StatCan

Women make up 37 per cent of self-employed Canadians, a growth of more than 10 per cent from 1976, a new study from Statistics Canada found, as self-employment itself has also seen an increase.

Some business owners say it's a mixture of reasons that compelled them to join the business world as their own boss, with at least one saying it's the flexibility and excitement of each day that keeps them going.

But as Sean Previl reports, the study finds the most popular jobs for self-employed women have not changed much and the number remains quite small when considering all working Canadians.
