The use of child care in Canada is slowly returning to pre-pandemic levels, reaching 56 per cent in 2023, just four per cent lower than in 2019 and a boost from even the year prior.

However, new data from Statistics Canada shows while things are increasing, demand due to more affordable spaces is among the issues still creating difficulty for parents hoping to enroll their children in child care.

As Sean Previl reports, advocates say it's a mixture of good and bad news as costs are lower but many children are still on long waitlists for more than a year, raising questions about what more can be done.
