Ukrainian officials surveyed the trenches dug by Russian forces in the exclusion zone surrounding the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, footage released by Ukrainian Witness on Wednesday shows.
At one point one of the men can be seen measuring the radioactivity of the area. “It’s already squeaking showing excess,” he said.
Russian forces occupied the defunct power station north of Kyiv soon after invading Ukraine on February 24 but they had left the plant and were heading towards the border with Belarus. According to was in the process of resuming control of the plant on April 5.
