Russian guided bombs struck an apartment building in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring 29.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko revised the number of those killed upwards to three, after the regional Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said earlier that two had been killed. Syniehubov also said two children were among the injured and four of those hurt were in serious condition.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov said there had been four strikes and residents had to run to safety from the site of the destroyed apartment block on hearing explosions after the initial strike. Others ran to the site looking for their relatives whilst rescuers helped clear the building.

Kharkiv lies about 30 kilometres from the border with Russia. The city of about 1.3 million people has frequently been targeted in Russian attacks during nearly 28 months of war.
