A Russian ballistic missile attack struck a residential area in Ukraine's Black Sea port city of Odesa on Friday, killing at least 21 people and wounding more than 70. According to Ukrainian officials, this was Moscow's deadliest attack in weeks.

According to regional governor Oleh Kiper, two Iskander-M missiles were fired from the Russian-occupied Crimea peninsula and damaged civilian infrastructure as well as gas and electricity supply lines in the southern city.

“Ukraine took 400 enemy hits only in the last 24 hours,” Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said. “Our citizens couldn’t feel safe. Unfortunately, the enemy tried to sow panic in our country, coming up with the narrative that the offensive actions will be strengthened.”

Odesa, one of Ukraine's biggest ports, has long been a target of Russian attacks, especially after Moscow quit a United Nations (UN) brokered deal that had allowed safe passage for Ukrainian grain shipments via the Black Sea.
