Ukraine's Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said Thursday that NATO countries had committed to begin training military aviators in his country on how to operate F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets.

Reznikov said NATO allies the Netherlands and Denmark would lead the international coalition training the pilots and support staff.

U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said following a meeting of the Ukraine Contact Group that “there is a lot work yet to be done” to train the necessary personnel on how to maintain and operate the older F-16s.

He added that it is still too early to say when the fighter jets would be see combat in Ukraine.

Milley also announced Thursday that more than 6,000 Ukrainians were receiving combat training that day across 40 different locations, in 33 countries.
