Russia targets Ukrainian capital of Kyiv with missile strike for first time in over a month

Russia launched a missile strike on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Sunday morning for the first time in more than a month.

Dark smoke could be seen from many kilometres away following the attack on two outlying districts of Kyiv, with Ukraine saying a rail car repair works had been targeted.

Moscow said instead that it had destroyed tanks sent by Eastern European countries to Ukraine.

Ukraine claims Russia carried out the strike using long-range air-launched missiles from heavy bombers as far away as the Caspian Sea.

Sunday’s attack was the first big strike on Kyiv since late April when a missile strike killed a journalist.
