According to a senior Russian diplomat, Russia has no “options to coexist” with the current Ukrainian “regime” amid the countries’ ongoing war and claims from Western NATO leaders — who support and supply Ukraine — that Russia has committed war crimes in Ukraine.

“The current regime that exists on the territory of Ukraine has proven to be completely toxic,” Russian ambassador Rodion Miroshnik said on Tuesday, adding, “External management [from the West] is dangerous for the Russian Federation... When this danger is eliminated, the goals of the special military operation are achieved."

While not a direct response to Miroshnik’s statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed to protect his country’s freedom Tuesday — on Ukraine’s Day of Dignity and Freedom.

Every Nov. 21, Ukrainians celebrate this annual holiday, where they commemorate the beginning of its 2004 revolution and 10 years since their “first counter-offensive” against Russia.

“Year after year, step by step, we do everything to ensure that our star shines in the circle of stars on the EU flag, which symbolizes the unity of the peoples of Europe,” Zelenskyy said Tuesday, adding, “Because we have dignity and will not allow our freedom to be taken away from us.”

In Feb. 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to invade Ukraine, triggering the countries’ ongoing military land conflict and a retaliatory Ukrainian counter-offensive in June. The clash has become the biggest confrontation between Russia and the West since the Cold War.
