RCMP are expected to provide details on Monday about an investigation that led to a Hydro-Quebec employee being charged with espionage.
According to a press release by RCMP, the employee allegedly obtained trade secrets to benefit the People's Republic of China "to the detriment of Canada's economic interests."
Authorities say the investigation began in August 2022 after receiving a complaint from the company's corporate security branch. The 35-year-old man charged allegedly obtained the information to which he had access to as part of his job responsibilities.
Yuesheng Wang is expected to appear before court on Tuesday to face four charges: obtaining trade secrets, unauthorized use of computer, fraud for obtaining trade secrets, and breach of trust by a public officer.
