Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson on Friday provided the names and ages of the victims of the mass shooting in a North Carolina neighbourhood Thursday that killed five people, including an off-duty officer, saying the ages ranged from 16 to 52. She also said that the suspect, a 15-year-old white male, was in critical condition in hospital.

According to officials, the suspect eluded officers for hours before he was cornered in a home and arrested.

The gunfire broke out around 5 p.m. along the Neuse River Greenway in a residential area northeast of downtown, prompting numerous law enforcement agencies to swarm the area, closing roads and urging residents to stay inside. Two people, including another police officer, were taken to hospitals. The officer was later released, but the other survivor remained in critical condition as of Thursday night.
