Rail Strikes: 'Unions either don't have a good events calendar - or it's been done deliberately'

Huw Merriman, the rail minister, has told Sky News that it is likely rail strikes were planned to "deliberately" disrupt Eurovision and the FA Cup final.

Strikes are taking place today and Saturday - when the Eurovision final takes place in Liverpool - and again on the day of the FA Cup final on 3 June.

Asked whether this was deliberate, Mr Merriman said: "They either don't have a good sporting and events calendar - or it's been done deliberately."
