In partnership with Ottawa officials, federal innovation minister Francois Philippe Champagne announced a $1.2 billion investment into an EV battery material production plant in Quebec.

Ottawa will put up a $322 million contribution towards the plant, while Quebec will match that through a forgivable loan.

When it is slated to open its doors, in 2026, the facility is expected to produce 45,000 tons worth of materials to help produce electric car batteries annually.

The unveiling comes as the federal government looks to get more electric vehicles on the road. Global’s Kyle Benning has the latest.
