Protesters occupied the office of Canadian deputy prime minister and finance minister Chrystia Freeland on Monday in Toronto, demanding the government take action on facilitating an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Gaza, home to over 2 million people, has been subject to daily Israeli bombardments for more than three weeks consecutively, following an unprecedented attack in Israel by Hamas.

Joining dozens of others, activist Dalia Awwad said the protesters called to end Canadian complicity with Israel's actions, and a military embargo and economic sanctions on Israel.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, rejected international calls for a ceasefire on Monday evening, sticking to his initial promise to destroy Hamas.

In the last 24 days, more than 8,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed, according to medical authorities.
