Pope Francis said the threat of a global conflict spawned by the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine should convince humanity that it is time to "abolish war" and to "cancel it from the history of man before it cancels man from history."
The Pope delivered the remarks in his Sunday address, speaking about the war after it reached the one-month mark.
He went on to express his dismay over children having to leave Ukraine, citing a statistic that he said showed half of the country's children had to flee.
"That is the bestiality of war, something that is barbarous and sacrilegious," he said, urging people listening to not consider war as something inevitable or that people should get used to.
