Pope Francis used his Christmas Day message to lament what he called the "icy winds of war" buffeting humanity. He made an impassioned plea for the Russia-Ukraine conflict to come to an end after 10 months of "senseless war."
In addition to Ukraine and humanitarian crises in Myanmar, Iran, Haiti and Syria, he condemned the lack of food in the world and its impact on humanity, especially children.
"Think of all those, especially children, who go hungry while huge amounts of food goes to waste, while resources are being spent on weapons," he said.
Francis prayed that Christmas would "inspire political authorities and all people of good will" to work to calm tensions in war-torn countries.
