Visiting a military cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 2—which in the Catholic faith is All Souls day, the day the faithful remember their dead – Pope Francis urged arms manufacturers to “stop” producing weapons.
During the mass at the French military cemetery in Rome, where 1,900 French and Morrocan soldiers killed in World War Two are buried, Francis said war “swallows up the children of the homeland."
The Pope has many times called for disarmament and has said nuclear weapons should be banned because even their possession for deterrent reasons is “perverse” and indefensible.
Francis, who visits the cemetery each year on All Souls Day, laid white roses and prayed at some of the tombs.
