Brazilian President Lula Inacio Lula da Silva declared a federal security intervention on Sunday after supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro invaded the country's Congress, presidential palace and Supreme Court in Brasilia.

"I hope that from this decree we cannot only take care of the security of the Federal District, but guarantee once and for all that this will not happen again in Brazil," Lula said Sunday.

Justice Minister Flavio Dino also said Sunday at least 200 people had been arrested following the storming of the Brazilian government buildings in the capital.

On Monday, police surrounded a camp set up by Bolsonaro supporters, with buses shipped in by the government, and gave them until 12 p.m. local time to leave. One protester, draped in a Brazilian flag, pleaded with police to "stop being puppets" and "do what's right," though she was guided away from the area
