The over 80s will be first in line, with care home residents having to wait just a little longer until the logistical challenge of transporting the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine are overcome.
Fifty hospitals in England are on standby, with community venues like sports stadiums and conference centres also being pressed into action as vaccine centres.
Scotland will begin the first vaccines there early next week, while Wales hopes to start its rollout within seven to 14 days.
Mr Johnson said approving the jab meant we could now be "sure and certain" of a return to normal life, but he warned there are long months ahead.
