Peru police raid President Boluarte’s home in luxury watch investigation

Prosecutors in Peru raided the home of President Dina Boluarte on Saturday morning as part of an ongoing investigation. The raid came two weeks after initial inquiries into possible illicit enrichment and failure to declare ownership of luxury watches by the Peruvian leader.

Boluarte, who has held office since December 2022, has acknowledged she owns several Rolex watches but has said that they were purchased with money she earned when she was younger.

"We're still going to carry out the review in the palace,” High Complexity Crimes Directorate head Harvey Colchado told reporters. “We are going to carry out the search, which is a court order requested by the prosecutor.”

Boluarte’s lawyer condemned the “unnecessary” action, claiming that the legal team “requested a simple rescheduling, so that the president would explain all the facts instead of [the prosecutor's office] exhibiting themselves this way."
