Peru president scandal: Dina Boluarte slams investigation into alleged corruption

Peru's President Dina Boluarte spoke out against a scandal relating to her use of luxury watches and pricey designer jewelry on Friday, saying the items were loaned to her. She did admit exercising bad judgment, a week after police raided her home and office on suspicion of corruption.

Boluarte faced questioning by prosecutors for nearly five hours earlier on Friday, focusing on allegations of illicit enrichment over how she obtained several Rolex watches and other jewelry that seemed at odds with her modest public salary.

Deriding the investigation as a "lie" and a "smoke screen," she urged prosecutors to be more professional.
