Peru's Defence Minister has declared a state of emergency on highways and called in the military to protect key infrastructure.
The move aims to stop blockades set up by protesters angry about the removal of the former president.
They want Pedro Castillo freed from jail. He is accused of an attempted coup and was arrested last week.
At least seven people have been killed in the unrest.

Al Jazeera's @MarianaSanchez reports from Lima, Peru.
