The suspect arrested after killing a German tourist and injuring two others with a tourist near the Eiffel Tower pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a video recording prior to his attack, according to a French prosecutor working on the investigation.

“Speaking in Arabic, [the perpetrator] introduced himself as Abu Tala al-Khurasani, which is a reference to the Islamic State terrorist organization currently operating from Afghanistan,” anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-Francois Ricard said on Sunday, at a press conference.

“During this video, he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State," he added.

Police said the 26-year-old suspect was arrested and that he had previously been sentenced to four years in prison for planning another attack in 2016.

France’s Interior Minister also said the man was on the French Security Watch List and was known for having psychiatric disorders.
