Pharmacists in Canada are increasingly reporting shortages of a popular diabetes medication.

Ozempic is used to treat Type 2 diabetes, but it is its off-label use that is driving up demand for the drug, as more people turn to Ozempic as a weight loss solution.

“Since we heard about the potential shortage in late August we’ve been starting to reduce the volume that we give the patients and we’re trying to triage based on patients that are running out,” Randy Howden, a pharmacist in Calgary explains.
