The Royal College of Nursing has announced a significant escalation in strike action after its members rejected the government's latest pay offer.

Nursing staff working in emergency departments, intensive care and other services that were previously exempt will walk out for 48 hours later this month - for the first time.

It comes as members of the Unison union accepted the same NHS pay offer.
