Health officials said during an update on the COVID-19 situation in Nova Scotia that the province is bringing in a vaccination mandate for public employees in certain sectors, including health-care workers and teachers.

All employees will be required to show full proof of vaccination by Nov. 30, or will be placed on unpaid administrative leave.

“This is a step that we did not want to take but some of the new cases have demonstrated to us that those who are unvaccinated are placing others at unnecessary risk, especially our vulnerable Nova Scotians,” said Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson.

Nova Scotia reported 41 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as the province announced it is starting Phase 5 of its reopening plan on Oct. 4 “with a cautious approach.”
