The DUP's leader has formally nominated Paul Givan as Northern Ireland's new First Minister despite members within the party not wanting Edwin Poots to proceed.

Sources at a party meeting said "the vote against nominating a first minister was decisive within the group - somewhere in the region of 20 MPs and MLAs voted against, only around six voted for".
