Niger's political crisis sees no sign of abating.
West African leaders are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss their response to the generals who deposed Niger’s elected president in a surprise coup two weeks ago.
The military leaders have refused to welcome delegations from the United Nations, African Union and regional organisation ECOWAS.
They say their safety cannot be guaranteed but senior coup officials have met the United States Deputy Secretary of State.
Al Jazeera's Charles Stratford has more from Dakar, Senegal.
