Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space in 1961, but in 2023, a Black African has not yet made the journey. Scientists and investors in Africa want to change that.
A conference is under way in Ivory Coast that presents space exploration as the key to unlocking social and economic transformation in African countries.
The goal is to make space programmes a larger priority across the continent.
