An New Brunswick LGBTQ2 advocacy group called Chroma NB said it was not consulted prior to changes being made to a provincial policy intended to protect and create safe, gender-affirming spaces for queer youth.

“While we were worried about the changes that were coming, we all knew that we were in the dark,” said Alex Ash, a member of the group. “We’ve been in the dark since the beginning.”

The New Brunswick government is pushing changes to sexual orientation policy in schools, known as policy 713, that would force children under 16 to get parental consent to change their names or pronouns at school.

As Nathalie Sturgeon reports, the move is being criticized by those in the LGBTQ2 community
