It's a story that few of us can relate to or understand.
North Korean defector Kim Kyu-li fled the oppressive state decades ago for China, before moving to the UK.
But she was forced to leave her younger sister, Kim Cheol-ok, behind.
Incredibly, her sister also managed to escape North Korea in the 1990s. She was sold by human traffickers into marriage where she spent the next 25 years living in China.
The pair recently managed to reconnect and reunite digitally thanks to social media.
But Cheol-ok is now in prison in North Korea, a place where her sister says she is likely to die.
She was among hundreds of defectors China has been deporting to North Korea, a policy that has raised concerns among human rights groups.
Kim Kyu-Li told her story to Helen-Ann Smith at her home in London.
