Montreal Canadiens fans took to the streets of Montreal to celebrate late Thursday night after the team clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals, the first for the team since 1993.

People had gathered in the downtown to watch the game as some COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted in Quebec, with several fans telling Global News they were confident the team would go on to win the Stanley Cup - an achievement they also have not had since the 1993 season.

The celebrations were not without controversy, however, as police were seen marching and riding through the streets in groups in an effort to keep the calm. According to Montreal police, 15 people were arrested and 60 tickets were handed out, with two officers also injured amid the flurry of excitement and vandalism in the downtown core.
