Dozens are dead and homes have been wiped out after a rare EF-4 tornado tore through the Mississippi Delta, one of the poorest regions in the United States.

President Joe Biden issued an emergency declaration for Mississippi early on Sunday, making federal funding available to areas hardest hit.

Search and rescue efforts resumed the daunting task of digging through the debris of flattened homes on Sunday, even as people in the region brace for a second round of storms.
