Rear Admiral John Mauger, the commander of the Coast Guard district leading the search, said in an update on Monday that authorities are working with the Canadian Coast Guard in an attempt to locate a missing submersible craft used to take people to see the wreck of the Titanic.

The tourist craft has been missing in the Atlantic Ocean with five people on board since Sunday, sparking a major search and rescue.

Mauger said that due to the nature of the vessel, both aerial and sonar technology is being used at the moment to search for the submersible craft both above and below water.

“In terms of the hours, we understood that was 96 hours of emergency capability from the operator, and so we anticipate that there’s somewhere between 70 to the full 96 hours available at this point,” Mauger said.
