On Saturday, Michigan Lt.-Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II toured the impacted areas and assessed damages in Gaylord, Mich., after a tornado touched down Friday. As a result, two people were killed and 44 were injured.

Michigan State Police said there were numerous reports of gas leaks and power outages throughout the city. Lt. Derrick Carroll with Michigan State Police said that the number of people without power has been knocked down from 6,500 to 3,900 people. He added that the number of people without power has decreased from 34 to 21 per cent.

Gilchrist thanked the Michigan State Police for their work in acting quickly during the tornado. He assured the public that himself and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are going to be focused on the recovery efforts. He said, "the emergency declaration means that we have unlocked every resource in state government to be able to make sure that this community will have what it needs and we won't spare any expense."
