Mel Lastman, a former mayor of Toronto, died on Saturday at the age of 88. He most notably served as the first mayor of a newly amalgamated Toronto from 1998 to 2003. He also served as the mayor of North York from 1973 to 1997.

"Mayor Mel" had a larger-than-life personality who often found himself in hot water over speaking his mind. As Matthew Bingley reports, there were many moments that put him in the political spotlight.
