Manitoba’s new Indigenous Reconciliation Minister Alan Lagimodiere drew criticism from the province’s opposition leader, Wab Kinew, on Thursday over the minister’s comments on residential schools.
The NDP leader interrupted a press conference question-and-answer period after Lagimodiere, who was shuffled into the new post an hour earlier, said he believed children were sent to residential schools to “give them the skills and abilities they would need to fit into society as it moved forward.”
Lagimodiere took over the role from Eileen Clarke, who resigned earlier in the week. Brittany Greenslade reports.
