Russia's first moon mission in 47 years has ended in failure. Its Luna-25 spacecraft spun out of control and crashed into the moon - in a blow to the country's once mighty space programme.

Russia had been in a race with India to be the first country to land on the Moon's south pole. India quickly put out a statement saying its spacecraft is due to land there in three days.
