After decades of space agency disinterest in the Moon, the last few years have seen a boom in missions there. Suddenly, a number of countries seem interested in grabbing a piece of the lunar pie in the sky. On Friday, Russia is due to launch its attempt to put a lander on the surface of the moon.

For more we talk to Juri Rescheto, DW's Riga Bureau Chief, who used to report from Moscow until Russia ordered DW to close down our bureau there. We ask him: How important is this lunar mission for Russia?
