Former Northern Ireland secretary and EU Commissioner, Lord Mandelson, says that he always knew that the original protocol would not survive "contact with reality on the ground in Northern Ireland".

He said that the EU had agreed to some "very major changes" and had "stepped back considerably" from its previous positions over the Northern Ireland Protocol.

He said that the EU had never trusted Boris Johnson to be honest when he was PM, and that he "never negotiated anything in good faith".
